Mr. Abbas Ali Baig

Mr. Abbas Ali Baig

Assistant Professor & Head of Department

Department of History

Govt. Degree College, Sumbal

Prof. Abbas Ali Baig joined GDC Sumbal in Feb 2017. His area of specialization is Modern Indian History. he has qualified our understanding of Indian Muslim History. Precisely, he has shown that the rapproachment between the traditional and modern leaders of Indian Muslim community did not begin with the Khilafat Movement but was foreshadowed by the Nadwatul Ulama whih was the very epitome of this detente. Further, that the Nadwa Movement was not started in teh backdrop of Firangi Mahal as argued by Jamal Malik; its scrim instead was the Aligarh Movement.

He has also given a radically new interpretation of Jmaraja's Rajtarangini. Specifically, he has shown that it would be an anachronistic reading of Rajtaranginin to oot that Jonaraja does not mention Rinchana's conversion to Islam. For one, this fact is of the least significance to his welanschauung. Secondly, he calls him sultan thus leaving no doubt about the king's religious proclivities.

Prof. Baig has, in the words of Principal Govt. Degree College, Bemina "significantly contributed to the academic growth of the isntitution" [Govt. Degree College Bemina, 2008-2009]
