Biochemistry is one of the prominent subjects in the field of life sciences devoted to understanding biological processes and their regulation. It involves research into the molecular mechanisms of biological processes with application in medicine, pharmaceuticals and agriculture etc. At GDC Sumbal, the Department of Biochemistry offers 3 years BSc Honors with Biochemistry as Major with an intake capacity of 40. We also offer Biochemistry as Minor and Multidisciplinary subjects.

Laboratory Infrastructure

The Department of Biochemistry provides a platform for the students to participate actively in laboratory work. The biochemistry laboratory is equipped with different instruments such as: Autoclave, Agarose Gel and Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis apparatus, Shaking Water Bath, Light Microscope, Incubator, Vortex, Magnetic stirrer, pH meter, Centrifuge, UV trans illuminator, Micro pipettes, Double distillation plant, Digital weighing machine etc. along with all necessary kits and reagents required for experiments as per curriculum. Under the guidance of highly experienced faculty members, students receive trainings and participate in different laboratory experiments such as:

• RNA and DNA extraction
• Agarose gel electrophoresis
• Bacterial culture and identification
• Qualitative determination of Carbohydrate and Amino acids
• Light microscopy, Autoclave and pH meter
