One Day Workshop on IPR, Patenting, Start-up and Entrepreneurship under Impact Lecture Scheme (2023-24)



Under the ambit of Ministry of Education (MoE’s) Innovation Cell, Govt. of India, a one-day workshop was conducted by the Institution’s Innovation Council(IIC), GDC Sumbal on the theme “One Day Workshop on IPR, Patenting, Start-up and Entrepreneurship” on 25-03-2024.The esteemed principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Shabeena Iqbal Shawl was the chief patron of the programme. The inaugural session was presided over by the worthy principal and attended by faculty, IIC members, invited guest speakers, non-teaching staff and students of the college. In her inaugural address, Madam Principal discussed the primary mandate of MIC (Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell) and the main objectives of College IIC. She also discussed various programmes organized by the College IIC in the previous year. The resource person for the first session was Dr. Mir Insha Farooq (Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Management, Central University of Kashmir). In her talk, entitled “From Start up to Entrepreneurship” she highlighted various aspects of business, start-up policies and role of inventions & innovations in entrepreneurship. She further encouraged the students to think innovatively and adopt problem solving attitude. She also underlined that the commercialization of creative ideas is indispensable in order to seize market opportunities. The speaker showcased various start up success stories spanning from global, national to local levels. In her elaborate interactive session, the students engaged in brainstorming discussion and learnt varied platforms for launching start-ups. The students displayed keen interest in the lecture and raised many queries which were satisfactorily answered by the resource person.
The second technical session was conducted on the theme “Intellectual Property Rights and Patenting” by Dr. Rizwana Rafiq (Senior Assistant Professor, Central University of Kashmir). In her explicit lecture she spoke on property dimensions in varied formats and how it can be processed for intellectual rights. Her lecture gave the students an understanding how to conceive and translate ideas into patents. Besides she spoke on trademarks, copyrights and GI markings. The session ended with question-answer interactive session in which students clarified their queries about the lecture. The sessions were followed by the collection of feedback from the participating students. At the end of the daylong workshop, refreshment was distributed among the students. The proceedings of the programme were carried out by Dr. Fahima Gul, Co- Convener, IIC & HoD Botany. Dr. Syed Shafia Aalam (Member IIC & Assistant Professor, Clinical Biochemistry) acted as the Rapporteur. Vote of thanks was presented by Mr. Ab Wahid Wali (Convener IIC).
